At the Avo Club we bang on a lot about eating avocados but what about putting them on your face?
As we know avocados are full of those delightful fatty acids and bursting with vitamin E, but did you know that this makes avocados an absolute dream for your skin! Avocados are excellent for reducing inflammation and puffiness, improving dryness and flaking and reducing redness. They also do a marvellous job at repairing the skins barrier to fight against all those things we put our poor skin through - exposure to UV, over cleansing etc. Don't forget avocados are also chock full of antioxidants - essential in fighting the signs of aging!
Below we share some super easy and effective ways to use avocado in your beauty routine. And, the best bit? You probably have everything you need in your pantry or fridge.
1. Avo Moisturiser
The natural oils found in avocados make them a skin saviour. Just mash up an avo and put it straight on your face. Leave it for 15min (ish) and then rise it off. Alternatively, if you can't bear the thought of putting an entire avo on your face and not on your toast, just take the skin of the avo and wipe the fleshy side or the inside on your face.
2. Avo Sunburn Soother
Obviously the best cure is prevention but sometimes that sneaky sun just catches up with you! If you've forgotten your sunscreen or accidentally caught too many of the suns rays, combine half a mashed avo, 1 tsp of honey and half a tsp of lime juice and apply it liberally to burnt skin. Sit back and soak up the healing and and hydrating effects of your avo mix for at least 15 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.
3. Avo Face Mask
This one is a real miracle worker! It reduces inflammation, brightens skin tones, refines pores and tightens skin! Mash up half an avocado, 1 TBSP of honey and 1 TBSP of yogurt and smear it all over your face! For oily skin try half and avo mashed mixed with the whites of one egg and 1 tsp of lemon juice. For combination skin - use both!
4. Anti Ageing Avo
To fight those pesky signs of ageing - fine lines and dullness, mash half an avocado and mix in about a tablespoon of rolled oats (get the good stuff - not the instant stuff) and pat it onto your face, neck and décolletage. Leave it on for 10 minutes to let the antioxidants and vitamin E from the avocado do its things and then rinse with warm water.
5. Avo Eye Mask
Move over cucumber, avocado is here! If you've got some left over avo slices after you've whipped up lunch or dinner, just pop a little crescent shaped slice under each eye for 20 minutes for an eye brightening, moisture surge.
6. Avo Face Cleanser
So we all know that oil cleansers are having a real moment but what about avo cleansers?
Wash the day away with this nutrient dense cleanser. In a blender, blend one egg yolk, half an avocado and half a cup of milk until the mixture has a thin, runny kind of consistency. Apply to face and rinse with warm water. You can use this one on it's own or after your regular face wash. Store any left overs in the fridge for up two days.
7. Avo Hair Mask
Tresses looking a bit stressed? The deeply moisturising properties of avocado will not only revive your hairs natural shine it will also help repair damage and manage frizz - praise be! Mix up half an avo with two tsp of (good quality) olive oil (if you need an extra moisture dose add an egg yolk). Apply the mixture to clean, damp hair paying extra attention to any dry or split ends, leave for 15 -20 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
8. Avo Hand Saver
Winter can wreak havoc on your poor hands and nails making hands dry and cracked and nails brittle. Combat winter dryness by mixing up a quarter of an avocado, 1 egg white, 2 TBSP of rolled oats and 1 tsp of lemon juice.
